- The tourist office says kite flyers gather on Berck's beach from 1987, when the first Rencontres were held; the town calls itself 'la station des cerfs-volants'.

- Pack for a windy, cool spring beach: layers, sun protection and water.

- Keep clear of kite lines and display areas; follow stewards' instructions.
- Never fly near power lines or crowds.
- Spring weather on the Opal Coast can be windy and cold: dress in layers.
